Promoting my latest book: including a book promotion checklist for authors

The last few months have been action packed with many author events to promote Elvis and Me: how a musician and a broken racehorse rescued each other, Hawkeye Publishing.

It has been wonderful to speak to people about my new book. Authors often wonder what they need to do when a new book is released. I have found this checklist very helpful in identifying opportunities and being well-prepared. You can download a copy of the book promotion checklist for authors here:

I’m grateful to all the musicians who have generously performed at my book launches and author events which includes:

  • Former Ten Tenor, singer-songwriter Brisbane’s ‘Billy Joel’ Bradley McCaw at the launches at Books@Stones and Riverbend Books.
  • Pianist and conductor David Kram at Stoneman’s Bookroom in Castlemaine.
  • Soprano Vanessa Millar from the Maleny Singers sang at Rosetta event, Maleny.
  • Classical guitar duo Tristan and Aedan Ward at Readings, Hawthorn and at the Nillumbik’s University of the Third Age in Eltham, Victoria.
  • Violinist and horse-lover Courtenay Cleary at The Tyalgum Music Festival where I was invited to talk about Big Music and Elvis at The Tyalgum Produce Store.

There are a number of events in my book tour still upcoming. You can find them all listed here.  If you are in the area I would love to see you there.

In September, I also went on a library tour at Toowoomba City Library and Oakey, Pittsworth and Clifton libraries. I enjoyed visiting these country towns and I sensed that library talks were much appreciated. Pittsworth is especially elegant it was featured in The Thorn Birds film.

A woman in Oakey confessed she had been firm with her sheep farmer husband. Mustering could not begin until she had attended my talk. She told me that as well as harvesting sheep as meat, they owned thirty pet sheep they adored. Her husband loved a ram, as much as I’d loved Elvis, she told me. It’s called ‘No-Cost-Spared’ because entrusting its care to a vet had been expensive.

I’m grateful to Ron Luck of The Book Tree in Toowoomba who brought along the boxes of books each day and set up a table for purchases.
