Collaborations between symphony orchestras and rock stars are often not a partnership, because the orchestra is reduced to a supplicant contributing a string surge here or a brass splash there. But this was not the case when The Whitlams performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra on the 6 & 7 March 2026.
Top draw arrangements by Peter Sculthorpe, no less, and composer Sean O’ Boyle, and one by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conductor Benjamin Northey, ensured that the orchestra was an active partner. The arrangements enabled superb opportunities for soloing and involvement by all sections. It was fun. An entertaining event with an impromptu delivery by conductor Guy Noble who brought the house down. Read about this unique collaboration of The Whitlams and Queensland Symphony Orschestra here.
