Recital with Brisbane's beloved soprano Katie Stenzel

Yesterday was stormy but I'm glad I ventured out to St Mary's Church, Kangaroo Point to listen to a recital with Brisbane's beloved soprano Katie Stenzel, formerly young artist with Opera Queensland, and Stewart Kelly a collaborative pianist who is also the artistic director of Hepburn Springs Music Festival. I used to teach both when I was a lecturer at QUT, and no, I'm not telling you how long ago.

Anyhow, it was a superb affair with a wild mix of heartfelt repertoire by Richard Strauss, Grieg, Poulenc, Faure, Duparc, Samuel Barber and Aaron Copland. Each half of around 45-minutes offered moving and polished performance, Katie Stenzel travelling across diverse compositional styles exploiting every nook and cranny of her versatile and lovely voice. Stewart and Katie have a productive musical rapport.
